Survival and Destiny

By Dorothy Marie Elms

This discussion of human survival is based on comments of a Divine Counselor, who gives as his credentials the following statement:

"... a member of a group of celestial personalities assigned by the Ancients of Days on Uversa, the headquarters of the seventh superuniverse, to supervise those portions of this forthcoming revelation which have to do with affairs beyond the borders of the local universe of Nebadon.  I am commissioned to sponsor those papers portraying the nature and attributes of God because I represent the highest source of information available for such a purpose on an inhabited world.  I have served as a Divine Counselor in all seven of the superuniverses and have long resided at the Paradise center of all things.  Many times have I enjoyed the supreme pleasure of a sojourn in the immediate personal presence of the Universal Father.  I portray the reality and truth of the Father’s nature and attributes with unchallengeable authority; I know whereof I speak.” (P. 32)

In this discussion I will quote from statements in the Urantia Book made by a Divine Counselor, who I feel qualifies as a source of information we can rely upon.

We are evolutionary creatures living on Urantia, the planet of our origin --Our goal and destiny is Paradise.

Before taking a trip we usually consult the best reference books and other sources for tips on how to get to our destination.  Let us put the question to a Divine Counselor, whose credentials are stated above.

Question:  What are the chances for survival and ultimately reaching Paradise?

A Divine Counselor speaks:

"If you yield to the leadings of the spiritual forces in and around you you cannot fail to attain the high destiny established by a loving God as the universal goal of his ascendant creatures from the evolutionary worlds of space."  (P. 64)

He further states:

"Eternal survival of personality is wholly dependent on the choosing of the mortal mind, whose decisions determine the survival potential of the immortal soul."  (P. 69)

The Divine Counselor has this to say about the human mind which seems to play a direct role in this adventure.

“… but the mids of evolutionary creatures originate in the local universes and must gain divine perfection by achieving those experiential transformations of spiritual attainment which are the inevitable result of a creature’s choosing to do the will of the Father in heaven.” (P. 25)

Let us remember that the MORTAL MIND originates in the local universes and that it must gain divine perfection by CHOOSING.

The Divine Counselor goes on:

"As pertains to eternal survival, God has decreed the sovereignty of the material and mortal WILL, and that decree is absolute.”  (P. 71)

Mortal Will is the X factor in the adventure.

The Divine Counselor encourages us with this information:

“The great God makes direct contact with mortal man and gives a part of his infinite and eternal and incomprehensible self to live and dwell within him.”

“What a mistake to dream of God far off in the skies when the spirit of the Universal Father lives within your own mind.”  (P. 64)

Now, let us proceed to link together the spiritual forces in us and around us, to which the Divine Counselor referred.  And try to remember always that the invitation to make this glorious adventure comes from the Universal Father.  Surely, he would not ask us to make the journey if the cards were heavily stacked against us.

We have the following GIFTS directly from the Universal Father: Personality and The Thought Adjuster

About PERSONALITY the Divine Counselor has this to say:

“Personality is one of the unsolved mysteries of the universes...  The bestowal of personality is the exclusive function of the Universal Father, the personalities of the living energy systems which he endows with attributes of relative creative consciousness and the freewill control thereof.”  (P. 70)

“The personality circuit of the universe of universes is centered in the person of the Universal Father, and the Paradise Father is personally conscious of, and in personal touch with, all personalities of all levels of self-conscious existence.  And this personality consciousness of all creation exists independently of the mission of the Thought Adjusters.”  (P. 71)

“As all gravity is circuited in the Isle of Paradise, as all mind is circuited in the Conjoint Actor and all spirit in the Eternal Son, so is all personality circuited in the personal presence of the Universal Father, and this circuit unerringly transmits the worship of all personalities to the Original and Eternal Personality.”  (P. 71)

The Divine Counselor goes on to tell about the Thought Adjusters or Mystery Monitors.

“… and the greatest of all unfathomable mysteries of God is the phenomenon of the divine indwelling of mortal minds.  The manner in which the Universal Father sojourns with the creatures of time is the most profound of all universe mysteries; the divine presence in the mind of man is the mystery of mysteries.”  (P. 26)

“The indwelling of the Mystery Monitor constitutes the inception and insures the possibility of the potential of growth and survival of the immortal soul.”  (P. 69-70)

“This Paradise spirit that indwells the minds of the mortals of time and there fosters the evolution of the immortal soul of the surviving creature is of the nature and divinity of the Universal Father.”  (P. 25)

The Divine Counselor admits the following:

"We are constantly confronted with the manner in which the Universal Father sojourns with the creatures of time; we are nonplused by the increasing unfolding of the endless panorama of the truth of his infinite goodness, endless mercy, matchless wisdom and superb character,"  (P. 26)

The Divine Counselor does not have a mortal mind of local universe origin that endows him with freewill as we evolutionary mortals possess, so he freely says he is nonplused by the unfolding panorama of the infinite goodness, mercy and wisdom of the Universal Father.

We mortals seem to be less willing to believe these attributes of the Universal Father, and that his ways are mysterious but effective.

But the Divine Counselor goes on to say:

"Evolving personalities are only partially wise and relative true in their communication. They can be certain only as far as their personal experience extends."  (P. 42).

Let us try to recall that the ways of the Lord are filled with mystery, as suggested by the Divine Counselor.

The Divine Counselor helps us again by suggesting:

“In the universes God the Father is, in potential, the overcontroller of matter, mind and spirit.  Only by means of his far-flung personality circuit does God deal directly with the personalities of his vast creation of will creatures, but he is contactable (outside of Paradise) only in the presences of his fragmented entities, the will of God abroad in the universes.”  (P. 25).

The Divine Counselor states simply the requirements for a mortal to initiate and foster the production of his immortal soul of survival qualities.

“A human mind discerning right and wrong and possessing the capacity to worship God, in union with a divine Adjuster is all that is required in that mortal to initiate and foster the production of the immortal soul of survival qualities if such a spirit-endowed individual seeks God and sincerely desires to become like him, honestly elects to do the will of the Father in heaven.”  (P. 70)

Here again, the word IF comes into the picture, but the only stipulation is that we sincerely desire to become like God, honestly elect to do the will of the Father in heaven.  The Divine Counselor has already stated:

"..but he is contactable (outside of Paradise) only in the presences of his fragmented entities, the will of God abroad in the universes.”

And we do have as a GIFT the divine fragment - The Thought Adjuster to help us do the will of the Father, in some mysterious way, if we really believe.

On WORSHIP the Divine Counselor says:

“Worship is for its own sake.  There is absolutely no self-request or other element of personal interest in true worship; we simply worship God for what we comprehend him to be.”  (P. 65)

“Even to approach the knowing of a divine personality, all of man’s personality endowments must be wholly consecrated to the effort; half-hearted, partial devotion will be unavailing.”  (P. 30).

These are forthright, helpful clues from a high celestial personality. To me he is saying that worship is a factor in human survival; that we have the capacity to worship; that it takes effort and sincerity to know a divine personality.  We must work at it and that half-hearted attempts won’t qualify us.  Again, the human mind must choose to make the sincere effort.

Hearken to the following words of encouragement from a Divine Counselor:

“The Father desires all his creatures to be in personal communion with him.  He has on Paradise a place to receive all those whose survival status and spiritual nature make possible such attainment.  Therefore, settle in your philosophy now and forever:  To each of you and to all of us, God is approachable, the Father is attainable, the way and means of divine administration are all interlocked in an effort to facilitate the advancement of every worthy intelligence of every universe to the Paradise presence of the Universal Father.”  (P. 63).

In conclusion:

“Man is spiritually indwelt by a surviving Thought Adjuster.  If such a human mind is sincerely and spiritually motivated, if such a human soul desires to know God and become like him, honestly wants to do the Father’s will, there exists no negative influence of mortal deprivation nor positive power of possible interference which can prevent such a divinely motivated soul from securely ascending to the portals of Paradise.”  (P. 63)

To me it seems that all spiritual forces are mobilized to help us on our journey to Paradise.

These things I believe!
